Skin Care for Acne-Prone Skin

There goes a saying that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’. This means that it depends upon a person on what he or she may perceive as ‘beautiful’. While this is true, most women would still like to put on their best ‘face’ forward when having to face society. A clean and fresh-looking face can easily boost a woman’s confidence greatly, letting her achieve her dreams and goals in life easily.

Still, reality sucks and we have to face the horrors of having to deal with acne one time or another. This is why it is important to take care of our skin at all times. Here are some tips on what you can do in taking care of your skin to treat acne and prevent it from coming back.

Always keep your skin clean!

It is important to clean your face at least twice a day even if you do not have acne. It is very essential to take the time every night to wash and clean your face, especially if you have applied makeup. Sleeping with makeup on can greatly produce acne build-up on your skin since a whole day’s worth of dirt and grease that has built up on your makeup will have all the time to sink into your skin while you sleep. Even if you are too tired from work (or partying), you should still keep in mind that your makeup must go before heading for bed.

Choose the right facial cleanser that is just right for your skin type. This is very important since sensitive skin may become more irritated with tough facial scrubs, while other skin types may not be affected at all. When washing your face, use gentle strokes and rinse well. Of course, use a clean towel to pat your face dry. Dirty face towels will cause you more problems if you keep on using them.

Hands off your face!

While it is truly tempting to poke that pimple to death, especially when you have an important date coming up, you should know that touching it will make matters worse. If you are not a licensed dermatologist, poking and squeezing out your pimple will only cause them to get redder and may even lead to acne scars.

You should also keep your hands off your face even if you are pimple free since our hands touch everything. So if you keep on touching your face, this only means that everything that you touch, including all its bacteria and dirt, may go on your face too.

Moisturize!

Many women who have acne fear that using moisturizer might further aggravate their acne to spread so they avoid using them completely. This is a wrong move since it is important to keep your face moisturize especially since the facial cleansers and washes that you are using to treat acne may strip away your skin’s natural oils. It is important to choose a no-comedogenic” moisturizer that is also made for your skin type to ensure that you skin will not dry and peel.

Check your makeup and tools

One of the number one causes of acne in women is dirty makeup—especially makeup sponge and brushes. It is important to always check the expiry date of your makeup since this may cause irritation that can lead to acne. This is especially true for makeup that has remained stagnant and has not been used for months where mildew and germs can build up, even if you can’t see it.

Makeup sponge and brushes are dirt carriers since you place them back and forth your skin and makeup. It is important to properly wash your brush and sponges at least once every two weeks, or more if you use makeup a lot.

Eat healthy

What most of us keep on missing whenever we get an “acne attack” is to check what we have been eating. Eating too salty, sweet, and processed foods are great acne magnets. If you have been a fan of junk food, it’s time to start trying to balance your food intake and fit in healthy foods in your daily diet. Drinking plenty of water a day will also yield positive results since it helps in flushing out the toxins in our body that cause acne to build up. Eating health may sound boring and a hassle at first, but you will learn to love it once you see the rewards your skin will be having.

By following these simple tips, you can be sure that your acne prone skin will be well-taken care of. In the long run, by keeping a simple and clean daily regimen, your skin will be lesser prone to acne and you can prevent it from coming back. It takes just a little amount of dedication, but the benefits that you will reap will be plenty!
